Brief Bio
Kelly Girtz is currently serving as mayor of the unified government of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia, having succeeded Nancy Denson in January 2019. Before he was sworn in as mayor, Girtz maintained a long career as a teacher and school administrator in Northeast Georgia. In 2006, after years of interest in national and local politics, he ran for, and was elected to, the District 9 County Commission seat. He currently sits on the boards of Family Connection / Communities in Schools and ACTION, Inc.
